This course is designed to introduce specialized mapping tools for emergency response, including realtime weather integration to GIS, ALOHA plume modeling, GPS Photo Mapping for field inventories and damage assessment, tips on working with the Media and more. An “ALL-HAZARDS” approach is used to cover incidents including oil spills, wildfires, HAZMAT, severe weather and more.This course is designed as a crossover to meet the needs of both GIS professionals wanting to learn more about emergency response applications and emergency response personnel wanting to put some of these tools to work in their Incident Command Posts or EOCs. Only a basic understanding of GIS concepts is assumed, but the class is open to both beginning and advanced GIS users. There is something for everyone!
This class covers the use of GIS as a “Common Operational Picture”, or COP, or realtime situation map for the EOC or Incident Command Post. GIS is used to help visualize and respond to a variety of scenarios.
Access to realtime weather information for GIS
Plume modeling for HAZMAT events within GIS
GPS photo mapping for user-friendly field inventories and damage assessment
Using Google Earth Basic, Plus and Pro for making maps and visualizing GIS data
Working with the media during a crisis

8 hours - $325 This class is offered four times each year at the National Spill Control School at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The class can also be delivered on-site for groups of up to 25 attendees by special request.
