Pharmacy School at a Glance

  • Year 1 – Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences
    • Pharmaceutical Sciences – study of physical, chemical, and biological aspects of drug dosage forms, drug action, and pharmacotherapy
    • Introduction to clinical practices through drug and poison information telephone calls, patient counseling on non-prescription drug products, and working with patient care support services
  • Year 2 – Disease States and Pharmacotherapy
    • Learn to therapeutically dose and monitor patients with potentially toxic therapeutic agents
    • Study the use and potential problems with commonly prescribed medications
    • Introduction of basic physical assessment skills for therapeutic drug monitoring
  • Year 3 – Disease States and Pharmacotherapy (con’t)
    • Drug distribution and control within institutional practice
    • Skills for managing drug therapy and providing case management are provided through clerkships in patient care facilities
  • Year 4 – Full-time Clinical Pharmacy Experiences
    • Full-time clerkships are in the following areas: pediatrics, geriatrics, adult medicine (impatient), adult medicine (ambulatory care), rural practice, and three electives
