The Undergraduate Student Researchers Program (USRP) is an on-site mentored research experience.Open
to full-time rising undergraduate juniors and seniors, USRP provides challenging 10 – 15 week internships at
all NASA Centers. Only individuals enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities, who are majoring in engineering,
physical/life sciences, mathematics, or computer sciences with at least a 3.0 GPA may apply. Stipends and
travel expenses are provided.

The Space Station Engineering Scholars Program (S2ESP) is designed to build a pool of engineers to support
the Space Flight strategic enterprise. Students attend one of five institutions and are nominated by the
university’s NASA liaison. Only undergraduates majoring in engineering may be considered.
CNASA Robotics Alliance Project would like to offer an exciting educational opportunity to SACNAS members and
affiliates. An online course for university or upper high school will be offered from October 25 - November 17
to students and adults interested in science, technology, and engineering. Eight lectures will be given by
scientists and engineers from NASA and the Spanish Centro de Astrobiología in Madrid. Topics will include
robotic drilling for planetary exploration, sample handling, remote operations, surface-lander design, and field
testing at the Rio Tinto Mars analog. Audio and captioning will be available in Spanish and English. Students will
have the opportunity to ask the engineers and scientists questions via chatroom. We have also partnered with National
Hispanic University (NHU) of San Jose, CA, to enable students to receive one unit of academic credit by taking this
course. NASA is offering full scholarships to the first 20 students that register through NHU for credit. The course
may be audited for free. Information and registration: http://robotics.nasa.gov/courses/fall05/

Internships/Co-operative Education Programs

The NASA History Office, which maintains archival materials and edits and publishes books and monographs,
also sponsors internships for undergraduate and graduate students year-round. The internships are paid
during the summer, when interns work approximately forty hours per week, and unpaid the rest of the year,
when interns work approximately twenty hours per week. When possible, academic credit is arranged.

The NASA Contracting Intern Program (NCIP) consists of a series of paid work assignments combined with
alternative periods of academic study. The first work assignment will be five to six months. Subsequent to the
first assignment, it may be only necessary to work during the summer months (until graduation). The program
prepares students for their careers in the Federal Government. NASA relies heavily on its intern program
as a source of potential, innovative employees. Appointment to the NCIP provides students with exposure
to public service, enhances their educational experience, and provides financial earnings to students to
encourage and support their educational and career goals.

Short – Term Employment

The Student Temporary Employment Program provides students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in
an accredited high school.Technical or vocational school, two-year or four year college or university, graduate
school or professional school with valuable work experience while pursuing their education. Students receive
temporary appointments of one- year, which are renewable based upon student’s academic achievement and
NASA’s requirements.
High Performance Computational Earth and Space Sciences Summer School trains the next generation of
computational physicists focusing on Earth and space sciences to support the goals of the Computational
Technologies Program. Approximately 15 students are selected, based on background and interests, to
participate in the three- week program.
Achieving Competency in Careers in Engineering and Space Science (ACCESS) is an on-site summer work
program for undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities majoring in engineering, science,
mathematics or computer science. A joint venture of NASA and the American Association for the Advancement
of Science (AAAS0, ACCESS provides a 10- week, paid experience. EntryPoint, an AAAS program, manages
the ACCESS program.

Education Associates Program (EDAP) is a cooperative space grant program, which provides work/study
opportunities for university students (enrolled in BS, MS, Ph.D.) post docs and faculty from any accredited
4-year university in the US. The program’s main objective is to link students and faculty with projects at
NASA Ames Research Center.
Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), more popularly referred to as the Cooperative Education Program
(Co-op), provides paid work experiences for undergraduate and graduate students studying life sciences,
electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering; computer science; physics; math; or business administration,
and assists in attracting and recruiting well- educated graduates into the workforce. SCEP is an “earn as you
learn” work experience and students work in positions related to their academic/career goals. SCEP is a
formally structured program and requires a written agreement between the Center, school and student.
NASA Means Business is an annual competition whereby non- engineering university students and faculty
draft a business plan for a future NASA mission.
Summer Student Research Program in Information Sciences (SSRP) provides talented university students in the
information sciences the opportunity to spend a ten- week session teaming with researchers at Ames to address
information technology challenges of future NASA missions. This program is co- sponsored by Ames and the
Research Institute for Advanced Computer Science (RIACS).
