Student Researchers Program (USRP)
is an on-site mentored research experience.Open The Space Station Engineering Scholars Program (S2ESP) is designed to build a pool of engineers to support the Space Flight strategic enterprise. Students attend one of five institutions and are nominated by the university’s NASA liaison. Only undergraduates majoring in engineering may be considered. CNASA Robotics Alliance Project would like to offer an exciting educational opportunity to SACNAS members and affiliates. An online course for university or upper high school will be offered from October 25 - November 17 to students and adults interested in science,technology, and engineering. Eight lectures will be given by scientists and engineers from NASA and the Spanish Centro de Astrobiología in Madrid. Topics will include robotic drilling for planetary exploration,sample handling, remote operations, surface-lander design, and field testing at the Rio Tinto Mars analog. Audio and captioning will be available in Spanish and English. Students will have the opportunity to ask the engineers and scientists questions via chatroom.We have also partnered with National Hispanic University (NHU) of San Jose, CA, to enable students to receive one unit of academic credit by taking this course. NASA is offering full scholarships to the first 20 students that register through NHU for credit. The course may be audited for free. The NASA Contracting Intern Program (NCIP) consists of a series of paid work assignments combined with alternative periods of academic study. The first work assignment will be five to six months. Subsequent to the first assignment, it may be only necessary to work during the summer months (until graduation). The program prepares students for their careers in the Federal Government. NASA relies heavily on its intern program as a source of potential, innovative employees. Appointment to the NCIP provides students with exposure to public service, enhances their educational experience, and provides financial earnings to students to encourage and support their educational and career goals.
The Student Temporary Employment Program provides students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school.Technical or vocational school, two-year or four year college or university,graduate school or professional school with valuable work experience while pursuing their education. Students receive temporary appointments of one- year, which are renewable based upon student’s academic achievement and NASA’s requirements. High Performance Computational Earth and Space Sciences Summer School trains the next generation of computational physicists focusing on Earth and space sciences to support the goals of the Computational Technologies Program. Approximately 15 students are selected, based on background and interests, to participate in the three- week program. Achieving Competency in Careers in Engineering and Space Science (ACCESS) is an on-site summer work program for undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities majoring in engineering, science, mathematics or computer science. A joint venture of NASA and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS0, ACCESS provides a 10- week, paid experience. EntryPoint, an AAAS program, manages the ACCESS program.
Education Associates Program (EDAP) is a cooperative space grant program, which provides work/study opportunities for university students (enrolled in BS, MS, Ph.D.) post docs and faculty from any accredited 4-year university in the US. The program’s main objective is to link students and faculty with projects at NASA Ames Research Center. Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), more popularly referred to as the Cooperative Education Program (Co-op), provides paid work experiences for undergraduate and graduate students studying life sciences, electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering; computer science; physics; math; or business administration, and assists in attracting and recruiting well- educated graduates into the workforce. SCEP is an “earn as you learn” work experience and students work in positions related to their academic/career goals. SCEP is a formally structured program and requires a written agreement between the Center, school and student. NASA Means Business is an annual competition whereby non- engineering university students and faculty draft a business plan for a future NASA mission. Summer Student Research Program in Information Sciences (SSRP) provides talented university students in the information sciences the opportunity to spend a ten- week session teaming with researchers at Ames to address information technology challenges of future NASA missions. This program is co- sponsored by Ames and the Research Institute for Advanced Computer Science (RIACS).
Summer Institute in Engineering and Computer Applications (SIECA) Program is targeted to undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing technical degrees in a major compatible with Goddard’s mission (engineering, math, physics, computer science, and earth science). The Summer Institute provides a ten-week research experience at Goddard. Students are placed with a senior scientist to gain additional experience in their technical field and to gain a better understanding of NASA/Goddard and its mission.
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory Undergraduate Scholars (JPLUS) Program was developed to recognize achievement and high potential in students majoring in engineering, mathematics, computer sciences or the physical sciences at the 25 community colleges closest to JPL and Pasadena, CA.
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program introduces undergraduate students to research under the guidance of seasoned mentors. Students experience the process of research as a creative intellectual activity and gain a more realistic view of the opportunities and demands of a professional research career. The Summer Employment Program at JPL provides qualified undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to participate directly in cutting- edge research on JPL’s focus, robotic exploration of the solar system. It is designed for students to be employed by JPL in full-time positions during summer break.
The National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc. (GEM) Fellowship is a unique network of universities, companies, government agencies, alumni and faculty. NASA is one of the agency participants. Through a program of paid summer internships and graduate financial assistance, GEM assists underrepresented minority students in obtaining M.S. degrees in engineering and Ph.D. degrees in engineering and the natural and physical sciences. The University of Houston Urban Experience Program is designed to prepare students for entry into the workforce by combining educational opportunities with work experience. This program for minority students includes scholarships, tutoring, skills workshops, and employment opportunities. The program is also designed to retain and propel more students to graduation, as well as to increase minority enrollment in NASA-specific disciplines. The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) Summer Intern Program invites undergraduates to experience cutting- edge research in the planetary sciences. The program gives participants experience with real research, the opportunity to learn from top – notch planetary scientists, and a chance to preview careers in research. Summer interns collaborate with a scientist at either LPI or the Johnson Space Center on a research project of current interest in planetary science. The Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program encourages undergraduate students to propose, design, fabricate, fly, and evaluate a reduced –gravity experiment of their choice over the course of six months. The overall experience includes scientific research, hands-on experimental design, test operations and educational/ public outreach activities.

This planned, progressive educational program integrates a student’s academic studies with federal work experience. This program enables students to work with some of the world’s best scientists and engineers on exciting, challenging NASA projects while earn money, taking advantage of an excellent benefit package,and having fun while enhancing their college education. It can also launch an exciting career. Upon graduation students may be converted to a Center employee.

Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers Opportunity to Enhance Outstanding Researchers in Engineering and Science (AHETEMS) is an on-site paid internship/scholarship program open only to Hispanic students pursuing studies in the fields of engineering, mathematics, and science at Hispanic serving Institutions: Texas A&M Kingsville, Texas; University of Turabo in Gurabo, Puerto Rico; Florida International University in Miami, Florida; and California University in Fresno, Calif. Additional Information NASA Scholars is part of the Universities Space Research Association (USAR) program and announces summer, internship, and co-op programs from a variety of sources (not just NASA). Tech-Interns.com is a web site with information on technical research and internship opportunities available in over 200 private companies, non-profit organizations, and government-sponsored research Centers and laboratories. The web site is a joint venture of NASA and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Studentjobs.gov provides information on thousands of Federal Government job opportunities. Studentjobs.gov is a joint project between the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the U.S. Department of Education’s Student Financial Assistance office. Carnegie Summer Intern Program in Geoscience is a competitive program held during the summer. Twelve to fifteen college students are selected for an intensive 10- week session performing original scientific research. At a symposium held at the end of the program, students report on the results of their research. Student Conservancy Association Career Development Program offers college students nationwide summer and fall semester internships with the Department of the Interior. |
