LABORATORY SAFETY SEMINAR

WebCT ON-LINE COURSE INSTRUCTIONS

 

In order to take this course:

• You must be enrolled in course SMTE-0091.
• Your account with the business office must be paid for all your courses for at least one to two days.

OBTAIN YOUR USER ID

If you do not have your User ID:   

1. Go to http://labs.tamucc.edu/
2. Run ‘New User
   1. Read through the information concerning computer use here at A&M University-CC
   2. Choose ‘Proceed with NewUser'
   3. Provide the information requested and complete this process.
   4. When you get to the screen that shows your ID and passwords, read the WebCT information at the bottom. Note: your WebCT password is NOT the same as these passwords.
   5. Write down your ID and store it in a safe place.  Do not give it to anyone. Close the NewUser window and continue

If you already have your User ID, log into WebCT (see below)

TO LOG INTO THE WEBCT COURSE

1. Go to http://www.tamucc.edu
2. Click on the 'The Island Online’ button which is on the right-hand side of the page to link to the WebCT login page.
   1. Under the Students banner on the left, choose ‘Login to Island Online (WebCT)’
   2. Enter your WebCT ID which is the same as the Novel, Kestrel, and Rapport ID you got from NewUser.
   3. Enter the password which is your birth date (ex: 12032004) 
   4. Now you have successfully logged into your course.
3. The first time you log in you will be asked to change your password.
   1. Change your password to something you will remember
      1. If you already have a WebCT password – use it.
      2. The second time you log in, use the password you just create
4. After logging in successfully, you will be on the entry page for your courses.

• 1.      Click on the link to ‘SMTE-0091 LABORATORY SAFET...’.* 

*You must be enrolled and your account must be settled at least one or two days before this course will be listed on WebCT.  If the Registrar and the Business office confirm your enrollment you do not see the course listed, please contact the helpdesk at 825-2825. 

If you have problems with WebCT contact the helpdesk at 825-2825 for help.

 

GETTING STARTED

• Now that you are in the WebCT course click on the INSTUCTIONS icon which will walk you thorough how to succeed in this course.

• TURN OFF YOUR POP-UP BLOCKER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO TAKE THE QUIZZES.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

• You must score 100% on all 5 quizzes (a total of 25 questions) to be admitted into a Life Science or Physical and Environmental Science lab.
• Take your Instructor or TA a printout of your grades as well as the emergency contact information sheet your will create during the course. 
• You will not be allowed into lab without successfully completing this course.
• This course will be available beginning the week before classes begin.
