Former Student Awarded for Excellency in Dermatology
Rachael Cayce, a BS Biology graduate of A&M-Corpus Christi, recently graduated with her MD from UT Southwestern Medical School. At graduation, Rachael received the Award for Excellence in Dermatology. She will begin her dermatology residency in July at UT Southwestern.
The Award for Excellence in Dermatology is given to the graduating medical student who has advanced dermatological patient care, research or teaching in a special way, or who shows promise for leadership in these areas.
Says A&M-Corpus Christi Professor of Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Suzette Chopin, "Dermatology is a very difficult field in which to secure a residency. To win the Excellence in Dermatology Award, Rachael had to be extraordinary."
Rachel has been researching under the Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship with Dr. Heidi Jacobe, where she has focused on the disorder morphea, which causes hardening of the skin and may lead to deeper tissue hardening. They recently presented findings in Kyoto, Japan.
