FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
The SURF provides
college students, who have demonstrated an interest in science, with
the opportunity to experience research. It is designed to increase student
motivation to pursue graduate education leading to science careers.Under
the guidance of a faculty mentor, each student has the opportunity to
learn the basic skills necessary to contribute to a research effort.
SURF is a 10 week program between
May 29th, 2007 and August 3, 2007, at Texas A&M University-Corpus
Christi. Deadline for receipt of all materials
- completed application, an official transcript from the student's undergraduate
institution(s), and two letters of recommendation - in our office is
March1,2007. Each student must complete the application,
either online or in hardcopy, send an unofficial transcript from the
student's undergraduate institution(s), and two letters of recommendation
from faculty members. The program is offered to college
students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who are contemplating
graduate studies in the sciences.Preference is given to women and minority
students, to students at community colleges primarily undergraduate
institutions. There is a total stipend of $3,500
(before taxes) for the ten weeks of the program.Partial
travel allowance is paid along with food subsidy
Yes, on campus apartments are provided.
Each apartment has a living room,kitchen and private bedroom.Most apartments
have four bedrooms and will house four students.Some apartments have
two bedrooms and will house two students.
SURF pays for your on campus apartment,but you are responsible for any damages.
