Warm Up for Today's Lesson

-Log on to your computer.

  • Log into your email.
    • Go to the area where OneDrive? is located but instead of clicking on that, open PowerPoint.
    • Create a one page powerpoint slide with images and text depicting what you wrote about in your About Me page.
      • After you are done, pair up with a neighbor and talk about what you put on your slide and why. After about 15 minutes, we will have a class discussion where you will introduce your neighbor!

-Review the rest of the syllabus: major assignments, cell phone policy, and attendance policy.

  • Warm Up's for Lessons
  • End of the Week Reflection
  • Major Assignments:
    • Generational Narrative
    • Source Reviews
    • Work in American History Essay
  • Please bring book to class everyday! (There is a book on reserve in the library.)

-Links to the Facebook groups I created. ENGL 1302.542: 11 AM https://www.facebook.com/groups/1759396844304521/

ENGL 1302.540: 1 PM https://www.facebook.com/groups/288467534864064/

-Review the Rhetorical Triangle: subject, writer, and reader. How you can communicate effectively through your writing.

Food for Thought

-How does this help with the Generational Narrative?

  • Who is going to be the writer of the Generational Narrative?
  • What is the subject or context of the GN?
  • Who is the audience of the GN?

End of the Week Reflection

-Write a reflection and post to OneDrive?. Use at least two of the ideas below.

  • What did you learn this week?
  • What was your greatest accomplishment over this week?
  • What is the #1 thing you want to accomplish next week?
  • How has your college experience been so far?

-In your Naming What We Know text, read Threshold Concepts 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 (pgs. 17-21).

-Response: Write a 1-1 1/2 page, double spaced in response to one of the options below. Upload your response to the Naming What We Know folder I shared with you in OneDrive? before Monday's class.

  • Option #1:
    • Explain your reaction to this concept: Is it obvious? Or is it new information? If it's obvious, offer examples from your past experiences with writing to show that you already understood this. If it's not obvious, use examples from your past experiences to show how you had the "opposite" or different understanding of writing.
  • Option #2:
    • Identify the sentence or sentences in the reading that you think best explain the concept. In other words, what part or parts of the reading helped you understand the concept?
