PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE – 30%
It is vital that you attend each and every class. There is nothing that we will do in here that is not important to your success in this course and the learning community as a whole. To encourage attendance, I will be taking attendance by sign in sheet every time we meet. It is up to you to sign in each day. If you forget to sign in, that will be counted as an absence. You are allowed two free absences. Use them well. After the second absence, any extra absences will affect your grade. Egregious tardiness and/or disruptions will negatively impact your participation grade.
INTEGRATED ASSIGNMENT – 15%
You will do a group persuasive speech over the Texas Bathroom Bill. The grade you earn for this assignment will count in Seminar, Political Science, and Communication (if you have it).
- RESEARCH PAPER – 15%
A research paper will be done, individually, over a section of the persuasive essay.
- FIRST YEAR RESEARCH CONFERENCE PROPOSAL – 2.5%
Even if you do not plan on submitting the proposal for consideration to present, your group must complete the proposal to turn in to me. Please do not submit your proposal for consideration to present, unless you and your group would like to present at the conference.
- FIRST YEAR RESEARCH CONFERENCE – 2.5%
Everybody will be required to attend First Year Research Conference. It is not required that you present at the conference, but extra credit will be offered to any group that is accepted AND presents at the conference at the end of the year.
FACILITATIONS – 20%
In order to allow you to take more ownership of your learning this semester, you will be assigned to work in groups to prepare class facilitations over lecture topics. Teams and topics will be decided in early February and the facilitations will take place throughout the remainder of the semester.
REFLECTIVE ESSAY – 15%
One reflective essay will be due at the end of the semester. See the online description for a better understanding of the essay, which is due on Blackboard by 11:59 PM, May 2.
