TAMUCC SciTechWiki College of Science & Technology

BEST Robotics, Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology, is based on an annual robotics competition of teams from high schools and middle schools. It is designed to teach teamwork, problem solving, project management, and pride in task completion within the constraints of a short time period and limited physical resources. Through partnerships of participating schools with corporate sponsors, youth teams are supported by mentors who serve as positive role models for the next generation of scientists, engineers, and technologists. The goal is to demonstrate the excitement of advanced technical careers to young people who are nearing decisions on college plans. Team membership is open to all interested students, and participation is without fee to the students or the schools.

Teams are organized geographically into "Hubs" consisting of 10 are more schools. One team from each school participates in a robotics competition in the fall. The BEST program is made possible through a collaboration of teachers, technical coaches, corporate and academic hub volunteers, and funding sponsors. Each hub depends on a business, university, or other organization willing to coordinate area teams. Funding is obtained from local sponsors.

Coastal Bend BEST, a new Hub serving Corpus Christi and the surrounding area, needs mentors to work with high school students in the Fall. Beginning in September and continuing into late October, area high school students will be racing the clock to complete their robotic creations in time for the national BEST competition. Are you interested in robotics and engineering? Do you want to help area students learn about technology and teamwork? We need mentors and volunteers for a number of fun area events in the Fall.
