• For late / last versions / drafts, read your group mates’ work and respond to these prompts. When you comment, ensure that the writer knows specifically the sections of her or his draft that is the focus of your comment. Ensure that your comment / response helps the writer understand “why” you make the comment; you can do this most easily by adding “because" to your response. In other words, if you don’t think a section is clear, say it isn’t clear and then tell why (because . . . .).
  • By the time writers are sharing later drafts, they have most likely solved issues with audience, purpose, focus, organization, development, and integration of outside materials. So the focus of responses to later drafts will be on "surface" and sentence-level issues, stylistic aspects that affect readability and usability.
  • These concerns can be as simple as spelling, punctuation, usage. They can be more complex, focusing on use of passive voice or overuse of intensifiers or jargon. These responses will not only focus on words, sentences, and punctuation. We will also consider overall manuscript format, page design, the visual aspects of the document.
