The Corpus Christi Literacy Council (CCLC), a non-profit 501 c 3 organization, requests $20,000 from the JOE BOB FOUNDATION to improve services for its intellectually delayed clients. These clients lack literacy skills and require tutors specifically tasked to meet the individual needs of the intellectually delayed. Grant funds will enable the CCLC to hire staff to conduct sixteen week sessions for eight individuals, focusing on phonics as well as whole language learning. Each client will receive 60 hours of instruction, and, as needed, will receive additional one-on-one instruction. A pre and post test administered to each client will demonstrate literacy growth. This program will help intellectually delayed adults increase their literacy skills, making them more employable and better able to contribute to their own care and to the larger community.
