All work is due by midnight Sunday night for the date posted.

Read the ENGL3379Fa08Syllabus and Taking an Online Course and then post a response in the Discussion area on WebCT stating that you have read and understand the syllabus and the requirements for taking this course. Also include any questions you have about the class and/or syllabus. There is no specific due date for this, but you should complete it asap.

Sept 7 - no new assignments are due by midnight this Sunday but make sure that you have completed the Introduction activity and that you have posted that you have read the syllabus (see above). Your responses should be posted in the Discussion area on WebCT.

Sep 21 - Read http://www.forbes.com/2006/11/30/future-books-publishing-tech-media_cz_bv_books06_1201network.html. In the Discussion area on WebCTpost a response where you discuss what you learned about writing for networked environments.

Sep 28 - Read http://www.sun.com/980713/webwriting/. In the Discussion area on WebCT post a response where you use at least two points from the reading to analyze the [TAMUCC] university website. Discuss how well the guidelines are or aren't followed on the university website. Make sure to make it clear to readers what you are referencing on the website.

Oct 5- Read http://www.wilsonweb.com/design/usborne-webpage-connections.htm. In the Discussion area on WebCT post a response where you use the guidelines from the reading to analyze one section of the university's website to determine if the guidelines for helping readers to make connections are being followed. Discuss how well the guidelines are or aren't followed on the pages. This time instead of looking at the university website from the main page, choose a section of the site. And by section I mean, for example, the College of Liberal Arts homepage and all of the pages that link to it, or the Biology program website and its linked pages, etc. You choose which section you want to look at, but make sure to make it clear to readers what you are referencing on the website.

Oct 12 - Read http://wilsonweb.com/design/danwilson-webcopy.htm. In the Discussion area on WebCT post a response where you use at least two points from the reading to analyze the main page from the section that you chose to analyze for last week's assignment. Discuss how well the guidelines are or aren't followed on the site. Again, make sure to make it clear to readers what part of the website you are referencing because we won't necessarily remember what you were writing about last week.

Oct 19 - Project Plan is due. Note, this is a change in the due date.. After you have submitted your Project Plan to the Project Plan List page, read at least one other plan written by one of your classmates and respond in the WebCT area regarding questions you have as a reader where the information provided may not be clear. This will not affect the student's grade in any way, but will only serve to provide a reader perspective to help the student improve the report, and hopefully as well, develop a better project. Also, here is some more info about putting together a hypertext essay http://jerz.setonhill.edu/writing/e-text/hypertext.htm. I'm just providing this link for extra info. You are not required to respond or turn in any homework for it.

Oct 26 - Read http://www.gerrymcgovern.com/kwc-ch1.htm. In the Discussion area on WebCT post a response where you use at least two points from the reading to analyze a website that you have been to where you are a consumer (customer). Discuss how well the guidelines are or aren't followed on the website. Make sure to make it clear to readers what website you are analyzing. And your response about another student's Project Plan is due no later than this week.

Nov 2 - Read http://jerz.setonhill.edu/writing/e-text/index.html. In the Discussion area on WebCT post a response where you choose at least one thing from the list on this page and write a short review of the information covered in the link. In your review you should first summarize the information that is included in the link and then comment on how you think it is useful for our focus in this class. This could be related to what we have read and discussed, i.e. the info adds to a discussion or clarifies a point/issue that we have already talked about. Or it could be points that will help with the projects that we are working on, or in other words, stuff you find that is helpful in getting these things done. So first you tell us what you read, and then you tell us how we might use it. Make sure to make it clear to readers what website you are reviewing. I'll leave it open as to what you choose to review, but if you see that a link has already been reviewed by someone, please try to pick something that hasn't been done yet.

Nov 9 - Complete all work for project so that you can spend the next week writing the Project Report. Post in the Discussion area of WebCT any questions you may have at this point.

Nov 16 - First draft of completed Final Project is due. Here's another example of a project report http://critical.tamucc.edu/studentwiki/ChadPurdy/RecommendationReport to help you prepare yours. . Post your work to the Post Final Project First Draft page.

Nov 23 - Read at least one other first draft report (Post Final Project First Draft) written by one of your classmates and respond in the WebCT area regarding questions you have as a reader where the information provided may not be clear. Also provide positive feedback where you find strong areas in the report. This will not affect the student's grade in any way, but will only serve to provide a reader perspective to help the student improve the report, and hopefully as well, develop a better report.

Nov 30 - No homework due this week but use this time to work on your Final Project

Dec 7 - Exchange via email (and copy Dr. G on the email) the next draft of your Final Project report with another student in the class. Use the Reviewing -Track Changes function in Word to provide feedback to the student. You will find the Reviewing function under View -> Tools -> Reviewing. Once you open the Reviewing toolbar make sure to activate the Track Changes function. After making your comments, resave the document and send it back to the student (again copy Dr. G).

December 11 - Final draft of Final Project is due. Post your final drafts in the Discussion area of WebCT.
