Homework assignments are due at the beginning of class on the date they are listed. Work will be assigned and due during each class. You should check the schedule at least once a week, preferably before each class meeting, as new in-class assignments may be posted in response to the progress of other assignments.

Sep 9 - Read the first two chapters in the Rankin text and write at least one page connecting what you read with your ideas for a writing project for this class.

Sep 16 - Read chapter 3 in the Rankin text and write about your thoughts, relating them to what Rankin says in the chapter, regarding working in a writing group and trying to read your own writing with the idea of the reader(s) in mind. Read Best Writing Practices for Graduate Students: Reducing the Discomfort of the Blank Screen by Carol Mullen, and be prepared to discuss during class.

Sep 23 - Read chapter 4 in the Rankin text and write about your project, using the ideas and concepts from the chapter, and include what conversation you are trying to join and how your project will help you to begin to find your professional voice. In class read "Engineering and Technology Student Perceptions of Collaborative Writing Practices" by Stephanie Nelson and be prepared to discuss during class.

Sep 30 - Read "The Cognitive Style of PowerPoint by Edward R. Tufte.

Dec 16 - Final date to turn in Writing Project. Turn in your project either by email or hard copy, your choice. Also, turn in the cover sheet with audience/purpose/questions. I will grade and put in the box outside my door FC267 unless you have another preference. You can rewrite up until this date for a higher grade.
