In developing this website, I did some research on some catering websites, from fancy flash animation to simple use of html. Two that stuck out for me were:Taste Catering,Gian Marco Catering . Both had there high and low points, so I took some cues from both sites.
My purpose for developing the website is to make on-line order placing possible and to give prospective catering clients somewhere to check out the photo scrapbooks and have a way to get contact information.
Building the Site
Knowing it would be difficult to accomplish the task on my own, I hired a web design comapny to execute my vision. All the design elements are mine as well as the theme and navigation of the site. I also wrote all the copy on the site. I wanted the home page to be limited, according to our studies this semester, providing only the basic information, as well as a fun quote that I hoped would show the accessibilty we want to portray on-line.
Working with a design company can be difficult, because your vision may not neccessarily be communicated properly and you don't end up with what you wanted. It is important to stand firm and make sure that you get everything you want. We are still currently in the process of doing some changes and upgrades to the site. The shopping cart has proven to be challenging because of my insistence that on-line ordering be a process with many steps, and not just a fill-in-the-blank order page, so it is still not up.
There are still some formatting issues that need to be resolved, such as increasing the font size on the menus, I believe they are too small. Obviously, continued work on the shopping cart, expansion of company employee bios, as well as the photo scrapbooks. Not all of the roll-overs are functional and the background page will be changed from white to a more pleasing color (tbd).
