SGarza: QuestionFromOmar-TheLanguageOfExclusion

I was impressed with the defense of the teaching of English as described by Rose in his essay. the idea that English could be protected from challenges to its necessity as a subject by simply calling it a skill that was necessary for the students to "achieve in almost any subject and to function as productive citizens." my worry lies along the same lines as Rose's, should the word skill be used on the word of English if it implies that one day you will "master" said skill. Can the study of English ever truly be mastered?
