Historical Significance: Addressing the Who, What, When, Where and Why?

As you (should) know, the first paper for history is due next Thursday, September 8th. Aaah! Let's try to get our heads wrapped around the assignment today.

The assignment revolves around the idea of historical significance that we discussed on Tuesday. Let's review the four elements of identifying a historical person, place, issue, or event:

  1. Identification (who/what?)
  2. Time period (when?)
  3. Location (where?)
  4. Significance (why? who cares?)

The most difficult part of this (in my opinion) is the why, or the significance. There are lots of different ways a single event (or person like you) can be significant.

How are you unique?
