Update - 28 Apr 2017

SEMINAR:

  • I have made CHANGES to to Final Portfolio requirements by eliminating the revisions of Mid-Term Portfolio assignments. Let me know if you have any questions!
  • Important Dates:
  • My office hours officially end on May 3rd, so please email me if you would like to set up a time to meet.

BIOLOGY:

  • May 1 @ 9:00am - Biology lecture will be held on the last day! Dr. Metcalf moved her appointment because she feels very strongly that we need that last hour of lecture to get through Meiosis.
  • Statement from Dr. Metcalf - "IF you have mastering assignment grades that you are unhappy with, I am offering an opportunity to reset (and redo) those assignments for a better grade. You should email me and tell me EXACTLY which assignment(s) you would like to have reset. REMEMBER: once the assignment is reset, your grade returns to a zero - if you do not complete the assignment, what ever the new grade is will stand - even if it is lower. I would NOT recommend asking me to reset multiple assignments all at once. The deadline for completing these will be 8:00 am on the day of the final exam, 5/10/17."

OTHER:

  • Course surveys: http://studenteval.tamucc.edu/ (open thru May 3rd)
    • I highly encourage you to submit evaluations for your courses, particularly those courses where you had negative experiences. The only way these courses and professors will improve is by getting good quality feedback from a large number of students. These evaluations are reviewed by the Department heads, not just the course professor, so you words are meaningful when decisions are made about who to rehire. Please help us to help you (and the future students who follow behind you)!

Update: 20 January 2017

Seminar:

  • Two seminar assignments are due next week. Look at the "Plans & Key Due Dates" on the left sidebar (under the Bio/Chem section) of my wiki page to discover what they are.
  • Service Commitment Opportunity - if you would like to complete your 2-hour service obligation sooner than later, the registration to volunteer at the Coastal Bend Regional Science Fair is THIS Friday, January 20th, @ 5pm.

Chemistry

  • Due to Dr. Owens cancelling Chemistry on Friday, Jan 20, 2017 a special assignment has been assigned in it's place and is due next week. It is located on Dr. Owen's Blackboard page under "Chapter Lectures" on the left sidebar (in Blackboard!)

Biology

  • The Prefix/Suffix assignment is due next week and up on Blackboard. Make sure to use the word root list as your source to write the definitions of each scientific work, not Google or another online source
  • Dr Metcalf encourages you to check Blackboard daily! "You never know what may show up there," she says.

Advice:

  • Take this weekend to dissect each syllabus, Blackboard page, and wiki page associated with your spring courses. Come to class prepared on Monday to discuss or ask questions!
  • Buy your BIOL/CHEM access codes NOW! You will quickly get behind if you don't familiarize yourself with each one early in the semester, or if you don't begin working on the homework. Doing the homework in a timely fashion over weeks (instead of last minute) will not only help you on the exams, but also in understanding the lecture material covered during class.
    • Yes, each student must buy their OWN codes (not shared)
