- Take care of your holds NOW!! Not later, NOW!! Or you will not be allowed to register for Spring classes.

Last year, I titled the month of October "Hold Awareness Month" with my students and reminded them about their holds every single day! :P

In case you weren't aware, the schedule will be posted for students to see on October 17th. I hope you can spend some time in your class showing students how to find the LC schedule once it's available. (My plan is to also create a LC catalog to help students "pick" their LC, but we'll see if I can get it done before then.)

Some of the advisors have already reached out to you about visiting your major-specific sections (COSC, Bio/Chem, etc). We haven't set up formal visits for the other sections because we didn't find the visits to be a practical use of everyone's time last year. HOWEVER, if you would like an advisor to visit any/all of your sections, please let me know and we can set something up.

It's October and time to start talking about Spring 2017 registration with your students.

I have attached the (updated) Seminar Midterm I typically do with my students (with answers) around this point in the semester to begin the discussion. I typically treat this as if it were a real exam, so I ask students to put everything away except for a pen/pencil and a calculator. Then I let them sweat for about 10-15 minutes trying to answer the questions. I finally let them know that it's not a "real" midterm. (Ha!) Then we talk about how they did and go over each question. It usually works out really well and students ask a lot of good questions. I've seen other folks do this as a group activity, which can also work out well.

Remind your students that they will need to set up appointment with their advisors early because it gets super busy the closer we get to registration.
