Project Title: FINDING A PARKING SPOT USING MACHINE LEARNING

Project Description: Without a doubt, parking is one of the most widespread and frustrating problems afflicting U.S. colleges and universities. Rising enrollment numbers are one of the main reasons that so many institutions are facing parking shortages. Enrollments have increased considerably, putting a severe strain on a service that’s already at the breaking point. One could also point to how many of today’s students are products of a “car culture” that urges them to drive to destinations when walking will often suffice. To combat the shortages, colleges and universities need to conduct comprehensive analysis of their parking and transportation management systems. Using surveillance cameras inside the parking lot can solve the problem of finding a parking spot by using image stream from the cameras and processing them using image processing software like “OPENCV”. This way the time spent in finding a parking spot decreases drastically and can also use time and fuel effectively. The proposed system helps in solving the problem of finding a parking slot in open parking lots which have IP cameras installed and gives information of each slot in the parking lot whether it is filled or not.
