Committee Member 1: Dr. David Thomas
Project Description: In the modern era, internet security problems are a major challenge. Threats such as phishing attacks, worms, and spam are the main concern of internet security. The other major threat to internet security is malicious software, DDoS, phishing, and Botnets. For example, Botnets are distributed network attacks that are very well organized. [4] A botnet typically consists of a huge set of bots that produce high volumes of spam or bots that launch Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. With the advancement of technology, the new emerging attacks erode the status of Internet security further. Phishing is also another internet attack that is a major threat to the Internet users. With the phishing emails and websites, the attackers are causing great damage to individuals and companies. Concentrating on the one of the major internet attack, Phishing, this project is developed to design a search engine with an inbuilt technique to prevent the phishing attacks. The URL information selected by the user is analyzed for phishing attacks. The results of this comparison are applied to block a phishing website. This project is analyzed with jMeter, and the performance of the search is interpreted.
