Project Title: Design and Implementation of SmartLab Infrastructure
Semester: 3 2017
Committe Chair: Dr. Scott King
Committee Member 1: Dr. Ajay Katangur
Project Description: Human e orts to interact with the digital world are continuously increasing ever since the invention of the rst computer. Advancements in embedded devices, sensor technologies and distributed computing have driven forward research of smart environments. Recently, the usage of smart environments has become popular in or- der to make everyday living more comfortable and to improve the quality of life. This work is concerned with constructing low cost infrastructure for a smart environment which is proposed for implementation in Pixel Island Lab over time. The SmartLab system collects depth, RGB and infrared data from a Kinect sensor by using Single Board Computers and stream reduced data over the network. A novel client-server model based on TCP protocol suite is proposed for transferring 3D data from the Single Board server to client. The complete software and hardware infrastructure designed and implemented in this project will help the application designers build intelligent services and applications on top of SmartLab more easily.
