Brief Summary: Phineas the Famous Photographer took pictures of his animal friends, but a mischievous witch cut them in pieces and mixed them up. It's up to the reader to put them back together, or to discover new types of animals and name them.

Topic: permutations

Suggested Activities:

Students can calculate all the possible arrangements of head, body and feet for these animal friends. They can tally, make a table, or make a tree diagram to illustrate their solution.

Using technology, students can use art clip pictures such as a frog, bear, butterfly and others to cut out the heads, middles and their feet. Have students help fix up the mix-up. Explore how many different arrangements you can make using the cut out or mix-up pictures.
