Grade Levels Recommended for Use: 6-8

Brief Summary: Wesley doesn't really fit in at school, so he creates his own "civilization" in his garden, which produces a crop of huge, strange plants which provide him with clothing, shelter, food, drink, and recreation. Soon others are wanting to be with him and like him.

Topics: time; protractor; angles; number system; sundial

Suggested Activities:

Have the students use Wesley's example of making a sundial. They must find their own objects to divide into the hours of the day. However, these hours could range from eight to twenty-four. Use the protractor to measure the angles on the sundial.

Have students develop their own Westlandian number system and notation.
