Course Description:
3343. Modern Physics I 3(3-0)
A course in special relativity and elementary quantum mechanics. Topics include space-time, relativistic energy and momentum, the uncertainty principle, Schrödingerís equation, observables and operators, bound states, potential barriers, and the hydrogen atom. Prerequisite: PHYS 2326/2126. Corequisite: MATH 3315 or MATH 3320.

Course Objective:To provide the student with an introductory knowledge of modern physics.

Student Learner Outcomes:

At the successful completion of this course, the student will demonstrate the ability to apply a basic understanding of the concepts of modern physics to solve quantitative problems in relativity and quantum mechanics by successful completion of an assessment exam.
