Elsehul, South Georgia: A grey-headed albatross on its nest. The tussock grass you see is the dominant plant species over most of South Georgia Island, and again, like the Falklands, the tallest plant too: no trees or shrubs. The grey-headed albatross is, to my mind, the most beautiful bird we saw on this trip. Incidently, this shot was taken while standing with one foot about eighteen inches below the other on a slippery, steep cliffside, high above the beach with the fur seals in the last photo.. These birds nest on cliffsides and you have to hold on to the tussock grass to climb out to the nests.
