BREC
Bird Rescue and Education Center
Updated 11-06-06
The WCRC members use to volunteer at the BREC on a monthly basis. Our members helped out by cleaning bird
cages, feeding the birds, and occasionally with rescues and releases of birds. Our members also help out with building
new enclosures and fixing fences. This facility is no longer open.

BREC Mission Statement:
Rescue and care for wild birds with the sole purpose of returning them to their natural habitat and protecting their
ecological niches through education and non-invasive research.

Rachael L. Brooks - Rehabilitator
Rachael learned everything she knows from Rachael Wilken. She has held her Federal (MB041683-0) and State
(SPH0301-709) migratory bird permits for over three years and is striving for excellence in the field. She couldn't do
it without the help of her husband Larry Cooey, who is particularly supportive of her activities.
Rachael is originally from Chandler, Texas and moved to Rockport over 11 years ago. She has a Master of Science
Degree from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi and is currently an adjunct professor at TAMU-CC teaching Freshman
